“Stopping By” by Jason Isbell
Click here to download and buy the mp3
Jason Isbell, formerly of the Drive By Truckers, has struck out on his own and his ball just keeps on rolling. Prolific as a songwriter, we are lucky in that he has a lot to say and an interesting way of telling stories through song.
There is often a tug of war in Jason Isbell’s songs between say, cautious optimism vs depressing inevitability, or, you care vs you don’t care; or, you might try vs not making an effort because its too much of an effort to make an effort. So it goes. But I admire his work and like his voice which is a little world weary. He’s taken a licking but he keeps on ticking, or something like that.
Enjoy Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Alabama boys, with the HS song of the day, “Stopping By.” HL
