“You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” by The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers (live)
This song is available exclusively from Wolfgang’s Vault
This is a very historic recording in rock and roll history. It is the live feed, from the sound board, from a The Byrds/The Flying Burrito Brothers concert at L.A.’s famed Whiskey A Go-Go Club, which had a capacity of only 400, on September 19, 1970. The whole show set includes 23 songs plus stage banter. This is the encore song that closed the show.
As background, the two bands were booked for a three night, six show hot ticket event. This recording is from the final show on the final night and was the first, and only, time the FBB and The Byrds performed on stage together. The previous two nights, the bands did separate sets.

This night, The Byrds consisted of Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Jim Seiter, Gene Parsons, and Skip Battin. Their work on the 1969 movie, Easy Rider, meant the band was soaring and at the top of their game. Easy Rider closes with Roger McGuinn (The Byrds) singing “The Ballad of Easy Rider.”
The Flying Burrito Brothers, this night, were Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman (both former members of The Byrds), Bernie Leadon, Michael Clarke, Pete Kleinow, and Rick Roberts. Gram Parsons would die of a drug overdose in Joshua Tree, California, exactly three years from the date of this concert, on September 19, 1973.
“You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere“ performed live by The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers is the HarryShots.com Song of the Day. Enjoy! Harry Lipson
