“Get Me Gone” by Walt Wilkins

This cat is a bit of a mystery. Not his music. Just the guy. Here is what I do know: for sure he is Hill Country Texan, which is right where you want to be if you are a songwriter, guitar player, performer, which is just about all else that I know about Walt. Other than, I like his stuff, most of it, and I have for some years now.
He has collaborated with and self associated with the great Americana players in Texas and Tennessee, the twin homes of this sub culture that bridges the musical gap between folk, country, bluegrass, and Southern rock. About 1% of my trusty Ipod is strictly Walt’s music. There are some that have more, and many many others who take up less space, and a shitload that aren’t up for membership in my music player.
Some of the time, Walt kind of reminds me of what Jeff Bridges wanted to sound like in Crazy Heart. For sure, I think (but do not know) that Walt’s life is a lot more together and steady than Bad Blakes’ deal. I don’t mean to draw any comparison other than musically and tonally, between the two. This album was produced by Lloyd Maines, a world class pedal steel player (plus anything else with strings and a sound hole, and father of Dixie Chick lead singer extraordinaire, Natalie Maines.
So, here is Walt Wilkins and his band, the Mystiqueros, with “Get Me Gone,” which is our song of the day. HL
