The kid from Lubbock, Texas, Buddy Holly, famous American folksinger that he was, became a James Dean-like trendsetter and star in the early days of Rock and Roll.  We all know from rock history that his plane went down and with him were Richie Valence and The Big Bopper.  Don McLean called it the day the music died in his wonderfully written “American Pie.”

Billboard ranks Buddy Holly as the 13th greatest Artist in Rock and Roll history.  Pretty close to the peak of the mountain.  Holly was also in the group of original inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Though he died early, his music catalog one great song after another:  “Rave On”, “Words of Love” (not a Beatle tune), “Not Fade Away”, “Oh Boy”, “Peggy Sue”, “Maybe Baby”, “It’s So Easy”, “True Love Ways,” and on and on.

From the American Graffiti soundtrack, with an intro by the man hisself, Wolfman Jack.   Here is “That’ll Be The Day” by Buddy Holly.   HL
